Internet in my life 网络改变了我的日常生活

Dragon in chineseTruth be told, since Seth Godin commented on my post, I struggled to find a topic worth blogging. But why all this pressure? I’m ashamed to have forgotten for a moment that my initial goal of this blog-with-an-old-but-oh-so-symbolic-layout-of-Beijing-Olympics-2008 is to have fun. That is why I decided to go back to the basics, to one of my passions, Chinese.

It’s been a long time that I haven’t practiced my Chinese. I thought I should at least make an effort and revise a bit. Here’s a little composition describing the role of Internet in my life. (My Chinese friends, feel free to help me learning and point out my errors :)

This is the moment of the year when I used to go travel abroad, but this year I am still in my beautiful city of Montreal and enjoying a wonderful time with my dear friends. Nevertheless, I miss China very much, I am very lucky to have been able to go study there twice. I met warm-hearted Chinese who became great friends of mine. Today, I saw this promotion music video of Beijing Olympics and can’t help reminiscing…

Most complicated Chinese characters I’ve learned at Nankai

Hey hey!

How is your week-end? Been thankful enough? What are you thankful for? For myself, i’m thankful for so many things, living a happy life with my family, friends. Of course, it is not always easy but hey, just never give up!

Ok, today, after une belle grasse matinée, breakfast/brunch, i will list you some of the most complicated chinese characters i’ve learned in Nankai University this summer.

Although, before doing so, i want to take a moment to explain you that in China, there are many dialects where the official one is mandarin (this is the dialect that i’ve been busting my ass off). There were traditional characters, but in the last century, the Chinese are using the simplified characters (except for some places such as Taiwan and Hong Kong).

Here is an example: a character of my Chinese name, bao, which means treasure. one has almost 20 strokes, and the other, almost cut in half…
(to see the characters more clearly, press “ctrl +” many times to zoom in)

Now, i’ve been learning mandarin and the simplified characters. Even though they are “simplified”, several characters are still complicated (so many strokes) to write… here are a little selection (from hundreds learned in the summer):

bi chu: wardrobe

ao ye: staying up all night

报警

bao jing: to warn the police

霸主

ba zhu: winner of a title

bian fu: bat (as in batman)

编辑

bian ji: to edit

da pen ti: sneezing

er bi hou ke: ortho-rhino-laryngologie

翻译

fan yi: to translate

fei teng: effervescence

键盘

jian pan: keyboard

jiao wan zi: ankle

基督教

ji du jiao: Christianity

mo jing: sunglasses

quan: enclose

新疆

xin jiang: a region in the north west of China

幽默

you mo: humour

油腻

you ni: greasy

藏族

zang zu: Tibetans

Finally, i would say that most of the characters are complicated, we all have to copy them dozens of time to remember them and yet… so easy to forget when lacking of practice.

Go practice, dictation next week! ^_^

Ever curious about my Chinese homeworks? 作业……

那,these last few days, i only spent time in front of our new 60″ TV. Is it the big screen that prevent me for having a normal life? not exactly… it is because i can watch those awesome, talented, sexy tennis players (such as Andy Roddick) on that big screen! Indeed, I’ve watched most of the games of the magical US OPEN. (who wouldn’t?)

Now the point of this note is that I’m afraid that my brain rots after that much time on the couch… The solution I’ve found is to write down some homeworks I did during my super intensive semester at Nankai University.

EVERYDAY, our teachers ask us to create sentences with the words we’ve just learned during the day. Obviously, we try to be creative so that we don’t write boring sentences like “The book is on the table” :P Here are some of my sentences, I reckon you will see my(silly) personality throughout the next lines 呵呵

French fries have been eaten by me

Jay Chou’s concert tickets are sold out

When he plays tennis, his backhand is just like Federer’s

My Chinese friends sing like superstars

Hope you can feel the warmth like a family member

Don’t play mahjong again (impossible)

Don’t make her cry again

Stop pretend that you have that much money

Don’t ever break someone’s heart again

I take advantage that he invites me to eat really expensive meals (lol)

I take advantage that his girlfriend is not there to get to know him more

To play like Roddick, you have to practice everyday

He’s so stupid, he just realized that this thing is not for eating

He loved me for one year but just told me today

In addition of MaQiang, GuiYou is also a handsome guy

I’m afraid of a lot of things, among them, i fear the taste of loneliness

To enjoy a good life, you have to not only fall in love but also to find great friends.

Your one-hand backhand, can you teach it to me?

Money, love, friends, i wish you everything you desire

I really love to watch movies, among them, especially Stephen Chow’s

There are some people who are difficult to satisfy

He’s not handsome, not ugly, just cute ^_^

Was I stupid?

Bonjour tout le monde,

are you all back from vacation? ready for school or work? for now, i want to review my chinese (because i’m horribly afraid to forget what i’ve learned!)

so here is a text about my trip to Mount Tai. (the most climbed in the world)

=== 爬泰山 climbing 6000 stairs

Yep, i was silly enough to climb the highest sacred mount in China even though i was sick. 1545m later, i was sooooo exhausted, but the view was amazing! so, i guess it was worth it… even though i ended up at the hospital… a chinese hospital…

== 我在中国的生活 my Chinese life…
